Wastewater Division
Mission Statement The City of Show Low Wastewater Department is committed to protecting public health and the environment by providing safe, reliable, and efficient wastewater collection services for our community. Our mission is to maintain, inspect, and improve the City’s wastewater infrastructure through proactive maintenance, preventative care, and responsible system management.
The Wastewater Division maintains approximately 112 miles of gravity sewer main, 34 miles of low-pressure sewer main, and over 2,700 manholes throughout the city. Our crews routinely clean sewer mains to prevent blockages, maintain low-pressure sewer systems and valves, service lift stations on a scheduled basis, and repair or rehabilitate manholes to protect the system from infiltration and debris.
We support community growth by inspecting new sewer lines and subdivisions using televised inspections before the City assumes responsibility for the infrastructure. The Department also installs and replaces sewer services and clean-outs to help determine maintenance responsibilities between the City and property owners. In addition, we work closely with the Water Division by assisting with water leak detection using specialized hydro-excavation equipment.
Through dedicated service, teamwork, and long-term infrastructure planning, the City of Show Low Wastewater Department strives to provide dependable service and protect the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Responsibilities of the Division
The Wastewater Division is responsible for cleaning all gravity sewer mains to prevent plugs, and responsible for all low-pressure sewer mains within the city, including any/all breaks, flushing of the lines, all maintenance on air reliefs in the system, and the inspection of new sewer gravity lines. They assist the water crew with water leaks within the city's water system using a Hydro machine. The Wastewater Division also assists with the cleaning of the lift stations in the city on a 3-month schedule.
Wastewater Crews
The Wastewater crews replace old sewer services as needed, as well as install new sewer services. The installation of clean-outs on the property line for businesses and property owners helps determine where a problem exists and whether it will be the city, business owner, or property owner's responsibility for repairs.
The crew performs televised inspections on all new subdivisions in town, checking for any offsets or dirt in the system prior to the City of Show Low assuming responsibility of the sewer lines.
Manhole Installation & Repair
The installation of new manholes at the end of all old manholes enables the crew to work from either end of the sewer main. Repairing manholes by placing new concrete around the top of the old manholes helps to keep the rain and/or dirt from entering the system.
