Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program
|
The
Show Low Police Department now offers the Eddie Eagle GunSafe® Program to
children in preschool through third grades. The program’s goal is to teach
children four simple but important rules to follow if they find a gun:
STOP!
Don’t Touch.
Leave the Area.
Tell an Adult.
|
 |
Program mascot Eddie Eagle® leads children through a classroom
presentation that also includes the use of student workbooks, a seven-minute
animated video, instructor guides, brochures and student reward stickers.
The
program, which is sponsored by the National Rifle Association, was begun in
1988. It was developed through the combined efforts of clinical psychologists,
reading specialists, teachers, curriculum specialists, urban housing safety
officials and law enforcement personnel to promote the protection and safety of
children in respect to firearms. The program is not designed to teach whether
guns are good or bad, but to ensure that children stay safe if they encounter a
gun.
Call the
Show Low Police Department at 537-5091 to arrange for Eddie Eagle® to visit your
school, church, daycare center, library or child activity program. For more
information, visit the Eddie Eagle Web site at
